FARMERS UPDATE 18/1/21

Latest developments - with 23 updates. Monday 18th Jan : Be Informed, Be Active

  

1. Parvinder Singh (s/o Gurjant Singh) who was supporting farmers at Tikri Border has passed away today. He belonged to village Alokh near Malot in Punjab.

2. Govt of India has unilaterally postponed meeting with farmers unions to 20th of January 2021 at 2:00 pm. Earlier the meeting was to be held on 19 January.

3. Supreme Courts tells police to set the route of the farmers rally on 26th Jan. Police has clarified and expressed some fears and apprehensions about the rally. SC has thrown the ball in Police’s court regarding the Kisan rally. Unions expect roadmap. 

4. Supreme Court has said that after resignation of one of the member of the committee, the committee is non functional. Court will decide on the matter in next hearing. 

5. Farmer union leaders will be meeting centre for tenth round of meeting tomorrow.

6. Farmer leader Takait has said that farmers are ready to sit in till May 2024. 

7. Bhupinder Singh Mann is in Batala. His entire organization has joined BKU(Rajewal). Bhupinder Singh Mann was put in the 4 member Supreme Court committee, then resigned. He has not joined the protest. 

8. Gurnam Singh Chaduni was suspended yesterday but from today his suspension has been ended. Many activists were unhappy at the targeting of Gurnam Singh. He has one of the most active farmer leader and even agriculture minister Tomar had to reluctantly praise his activism. But attempts by communist Rajinder and others failed as SKM has cancelled the suspension of Gurnam Singh Chaduni. Chaduni cleared out the concerns and now will be regular part of the SKM. Sangat played a major role in stopping communist Rajinder try at dividing the leaders. He used derogatory language against Bapu Gurnam Singh whereas other farmer leader Balbir Singh Rajewal called him our respected brother. 

9. Hemkunt Foundation has set up Hemkunt Foundation Bazaar at Shahjahanpur border. This is very much like Khalsa Aid’s Kisan Mall at Tikri Border.

10. Shree Brar, writer of Kisan Anthem addressed Sangat at Singhu Border. He was released 2 days ago from police custody. 

11. Farmers protest has entered day 117 at Jandiala Guru and many other junctions in Punjab. These junctions have taken the shape of Singhu and Tikri borders. 

12. Women protesting against the farm laws held special programs today at Tikri Border.

13. NDTV Ravish Kumar asks why Godhi media are so quiet on notorious what’s app messages of Arnab Goswami. 

14. Arnab Goswami reputation in tatters but Godhi media making excuses where they can, but generally trying to keep scandal off the airwaves. 

15. 100 Former Bureaucrats Raise Concerns Over Transparency In PM Cares, Ask PM Modi To Make Fund Details Public. The civil servants said that the "clear absence of transparency" in every aspect of the Fund, was "disturbing" as states governments handling the challenges of the pandemic "were, and continue to be, sorely in need of financial assistance". 

16. Lakha Sidhana continues to visit districts around Punjab. He is shown a lot of love by Punjabis. 

17. Capt Amrinder Singh - I strongly condemn the issuance of NIA notices to various farmers and their supporters in the midst of the anti-farm laws agitation. Do our farmers look like secessionists and terrorists? Instead of resolving the issue, @BJP4India is resorting to harassment of our farmers.

18. Activists call out Captain Amrinder Singhs hypocrisy as Jaggi Johal has been in jail for 3 years due to NIA without trail. He never does anything to free Jaggi. 

19. Shiv Sena continue to threaten activists in Punjab media. But nobody bothers with their nonsense. 

20. Zee TV now making unfounded allegations against Canadian Minister Navdeep Bains. Even pro-india Canadian commentators say Zee TV is Modi mouthpiece and not journalism. 

21. UK sikh Talvinder Singh has been sleeping in a tent since 31 December 2020. He is doing this to show his support for the Indian Farmers Protests and also to spread awareness in the youth, especially abroad. 

22. Numerous Canadian MPs nominate Khalsa Aid for the Nobel Peace Prize as India NIA summon them for investigation.
